Umeewarra Media is South Australia's only Aboriginal radio station. Keeping culture strong. We have an Aboriginal Board of Management that ensures we have community ownership of our programming which promotes the importance and relevance of Aboriginal cultures in today s society. We promote the important role Aboriginal people play in this region & discuss the issues they face in today s Australia. We promote true reconciliation through sharing cultural information and breaking down the barriers. However, we are not just a radio station, we are a Community organisation providing many other services to the Port Augusta and Far North Aboriginal Communities. Through partnership with Federal and State Government agencies we were pivotal in the fight against Covid 19, we ran immunisation clinics at the radio station and a number of programs designed to increase the Aboriginal uptake of preventive programs including immunisation. We were successful in getting an extra 250 Aboriginal people to get double vaxxed, most of them were young people who had vowed they would never get the vaccine. This came about because our community asked us to facilitate it because they trust us. Our ongoing partnership with the Australian Electoral Commission helps to educate communities about the importance of enrolling and participating in the electoral process. We also assist people in enrolling to vote. We also run special programs for young people on all aspects of the electoral process. For the last few years we have organised the Port Augusta NAIDOC celebrations, in 2022 this comprised 25 events over 6 days. We believe this is the largest NAIDOC program of events in Australia. However, we have also facilitated music events such as Umee Downtown and tours through the north of South Australia. The Federal Government completed a Social Return on Investment review of Umeewarra Media a few years ago and found that for every $1 they spend with us, they get $4.30 in social, cultural and economic return. Umeewarra Media is an organisation trusted by our community and we always strive to keep our cultures strong.
