We are a floral enterprise supporting women from refugee backgrounds to bloom. Our purpose is to provide support to young women from refugee and humanitarian backgrounds who are excluded from the mainstream labour market. Young women from refugee backgrounds face significant barriers when looking for work in Australia; the intersection of being young, from a refugee background, and female, creates a significant disadvantage when trying to enter the Australian workforce for the first time. The young women Merchant Road Events Inc provides relief to, have identified a lack of opportunities to gain the skills and experience needed to find employment, as key contributors to their financial insecurity and distress, and feelings of social isolation. They have also identified a lack in the knowledge, social connections and selfconfidence needed to find and maintain employment in Australia.
