In addition, we provided networking, collaborative and presentation opportunities through the hosting of our 50th Annual Scientific Meeting in Melbourne. We fostered interdisciplinary collaboration and supported ClinicianImmunology researchers by hosting our inaugural ASI Clinical Translation School in 2022. Our 7 individual branches and 11 Special Interest Groups also hosted events tailored to their members; these were mostly inperson events or hybrid format, to ensure inclusivity. We also hosted a new and improved Mentoring Program that was open to members of all career stages and backgrounds. This program particularly encouraged participation by members who were either in their early career stages and/or from a diverse background. We continued to support our broader nonscientific community through these challenging pandemic times by making science accessible; primarily through a dedicated 'Public' section on our website hosting various resources.

Popis

The Australian and New Zealand Society for Immunology Incorporated (ASI) is a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the science and education of immunology in the Australasian region. It serves as a broadly based society encompassing a wide spectrum of immunological disciplines, including clinical and experimental, cellular and molecular immunology in both humans and animals[2][5].

Mission and Objectives

The core mission of ASI is to encourage and support the discipline of immunology across Australia and New Zealand. The society fosters a collaborative network facilitating the exchange of information and scientific cooperation within the region and internationally. It places a strong emphasis on introducing and nurturing young scientists in the field, thereby ensuring the ongoing development and innovation in immunological research[3][5].

Activities and Events

ASI organizes an annual scientific meeting that attracts immunologists from various subfields, providing a platform to present cutting-edge research and engage in professional development. For example, the 51st Annual Scientific Meeting was held in Auckland, New Zealand, in December 2023, featuring a diverse program of topics and expert speakers from both local and international communities[5].

The society also hosts public events and educational initiatives aimed at increasing awareness about immunology among the general public. Notable efforts include Online Fireside Chats and Q&A sessions that communicate immunological concepts in accessible, non-technical language. Additionally, ASI participates in celebrations such as the International Day of Immunology to promote immunology's importance[3].

Publications

ASI publishes two respected peer-reviewed scientific journals: Immunology & Cell Biology and Clinical & Translational Immunology. These journals contribute significantly to the dissemination of new research findings and advancements in immunological science[3].

Leadership and Organization

ASI is governed by elected officials, including a President, Chief Executive Officer, Honorary Secretary, and Treasurer, supported by an organizing committee responsible for its activities and strategic direction. As of recent records, Professor Gabrielle Belz serves as President, with Dr Tyani Chan as CEO among other notable leaders in the society[5].

Significance

The Australian and New Zealand Society for Immunology plays a vital role in promoting immunology research and education, facilitating collaboration among scientists, and enhancing public understanding of immune system science in the Australasian region. Its inclusive structure and broad scope make it a cornerstone organization in the field of immunology[1][2][5].
