Melbourne's best classical music and jazz. 3MBS Melbourne 103.5FM is an inclusive and innovative community broadcaster that strives for the highest quality in programming and presenting of classical music, and in supporting and promoting local artists and performances. The station delivers a diverse range of classical, jazz and genrerelated programs to over 170,000 weekly listeners, 24 hours a day on three bands: 103.5FM, 3MBS Digital and online. Established in 1975, 3MBS has led the way for over 45 years in broadcasting classical music to listeners across Melbourne. Revenue is generated primarily through private giving, Trusts and Foundations, sponsorship, subscriptions, and live performances. The team consists of a small number of paid staff and approximately 200 dedicated volunteers who work to ensure the station's operations for the benefit of the community. Every month, the station s volunteers contribute to this community organisation in roles as diverse as broadcast presenting, programming, library management, sound engineering, Information Technology, publicity, events, promotions, and fundraising. In 2022 3MBS Melbourne continued to passionately support Melbourne's music community as the sector emerged from the global Covid 19 pandemic. 3MBS provided live events and promoted local, classically trained musicians to encourage the community to support Melbourne musicians after two years of limited live performances. 3MBS achieved the national award for Excellence in Community Engagement by the Community Broadcasting Association for the station s community ComeTogether program that provided online opportunities for all 3MBS community members during the Covid 19 lockdowns. Philanthropic funds raised for the station included funds for a major upgrade of the station s website and in support of the station s youth program. In 2022 3MBS supported the career development of over sixty young musicians through the programs, The Talent, The Young Performer Award and through broadcast performance/ interview opportunities. This year s initiatives included the inaugural Classically Kids live education program that provided 120 of our youngest enthusiasts with an immersive musical experience to introduce them to classical music. In 2022, 3MBS recorded 148 live performances and concerts to help promote Melbourne s artists as performance opportunities recommenced after the lockdowns during the Covid 19 pandemic. These recordings add to the station s excellent archive of concert recordings of Australian artists over the past 47 years.
