Donations to Bush Heritage Australia during the 20222023 financial year enabled the organisation to achieve significant outcomes towards our vision of healthy Country, protected forever. The outcomes we delivered directly supported the four key impact areas of our 2030 Strategy and will help see Bush Heritage double and deepen our impact in the next seven years. Across our reserve network we invested in staff and projects to help build resilience into our landscapes and protect the native plants and animals that call them home. This work included the roll out of four major rehydration projects, restoring hydrological function and safeguarding water the source of life on our reserves for years to come. At Naree Station Reserve on Budjiti Country and the neighbouring Yantabulla Station (owned by South Endeavour Trust) we achieved conservation covenants that will help protect one of Australia s most significant waterbird breeding sites in perpetuity. Our Conservation and Science team progressed the Climate Futures project, one that uses leading science and research to predict the impacts of climate change on Bush Heritage s 19 priority landscapes. This project will inform land management plans at current and future reserves and allow our staff to explore creative conservation solutions to suit future climatic conditions. At our Yourka Reserve, Jirrbal and Warrungu Country, we employed ecoacoustics to more efficiently monitor landscape health and sound the early alarm for potential threats. In our emerging focus, natural capital in agriculture , we expanded our team and outlined a strategy for how we would work in the sector. This included continuing the good work with key research partners and foundations, such as our support of the Farming for the Future program and the celebration of 10 years working in the Tasmania Midlands with landholders and the Tasmanian Land Conservancy. In our 2030 Strategy, we made a commitment to deepen our work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait partners. This year, we became stronger listeners, and this brought about innovative changes as we walk together to heal Country. We now have three members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce in our Senior Leadership Team, centering their voices in all our decisionmaking processes. We also increased our staff s cultural competency from 75 to 85 percent through a series of refreshed cultural competency training. Bush Heritage s workforce expanded from 153 to 199 employees, and we formalised our Seeding the Future program to better support learning pathways for earlycareer conservationists. This year, we published 23 scientific papers and 46 research projects were undertaken by talented staff across our diverse landscapes. In 202223, we heavily invested in our people and all the tools required to meet tomorrow s challenges, guided by our steadfast 2030 Strategy.
