**Caulfield Grammar School** is an independent co-educational school in Melbourne, Australia, established on 25 April 1881 by Joseph Henry Davies. Originally a boys' school with nine students, it became co-educational in 1981. The school operates across multiple campuses, including Caulfield, Malvern, Shelford, and Wheelers Hill, serving over 3,570 students.
### History
Founded in Elsternwick, Victoria, the school relocated to Glen Eira Road, St Kilda East, in 1909[1][2]. Early milestones include admitting its first international student, Wilkie Lum, in 1911, and appointing its first international boarder prefect, Charles Ying, in 1913[1]. In 1931, governance shifted to a school council following the retirement of long-serving headmaster Walter Buntine[1][3].
A significant development occurred in 1947 with the establishment of Australia’s first rural educational centre at Yarra Junction[1]. The school joined the Associated Public Schools (APS) of Victoria in 1958[1][2]. Affiliation with Malvern Memorial Grammar School (founded 1890) occurred in 1961, later integrating it as the Malvern Campus in 1971[2][3].
### Educational Programs
Caulfield Grammar offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years and Middle Years programmes alongside Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) studies[4]. Its Year 9 Kakadu Program and Year 10 Odyssey focus on experiential learning, while the Reggio Emilia Approach® guides early education[4]. The school operates boarding facilities at its Caulfield Campus[4].
### Infrastructure

During Dementia Action Week, Year 6 student Isabelle was proud to support Medical and Aged Care Group (MACG) with her inspiring Community Issues Exhibition project. Isabelle's grandmother lives with Dementia and Isabelle is passionate about building awareness, encouraging conversations and creating dementia-friendly communities. To bring her project to life, Isabelle shared the Sensory Wizard, one of MACG’s in-home innovations, which delivers calming, sensory experiences for residents. Students, teachers and families were moved by Isabelle’s story and amazed by the way sensory experiences can help people living with dementia. ❤️ #CaulfieldGrammar2025 #DementiaActionWeek (fb)
