Danger Sun Overhead Limited

Danger Sun Overhead Limited is an Australian nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the impact of melanoma and other skin cancers across the country. Founded after the loss of Rohan Crotty to melanoma in 2009, the organization focuses on education, awareness, and advocacy related to ultraviolet (UV) radiation hazards, including heat stress.

Objectives

The primary objectives of Danger Sun Overhead are to educate Australians about the risks associated with UV exposure, promote early detection, and foster prevention practices. They aim to become Australia's leading provider of skin cancer education and awareness, striving for long-term behavioral change in sun safety habits.

Programs and Achievements

Since its inception, Danger Sun Overhead has delivered educational workshops to over 80,000 attendees across various workplaces and regions in Australia. Their programs specifically target high-risk industries to address melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers effectively. The organization's efforts are supported by a strong board committed to strategic decision-making and policy development.

Impact and Statistics

Australia's skin cancer statistics highlight the urgent need for these programs:

  • Melanoma and Mortality: One Australian dies every five hours from advanced melanoma.
  • Diagnosis Rates: Melanomas are the most commonly diagnosed cancer among young Australians (aged 15-39).
  • Prevalence: Two-thirds of Australians will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer by the age of 70.

By providing education and promoting sun safety initiatives, Danger Sun Overhead plays a crucial role in mitigating these statistics and enhancing public health awareness.
