This week is Homelessness Week, and the theme is "Homelessness Action Now". In the last six months, we have supported 199 people sleeping rough, on nearly 600 occasions. We are not a housing service, so often the best we can do is to support people with food, medication, sleeping bags, and referrals. Here in Casey, we have the second-highest rate of homelessness in Victoria, and we have seen a 50-70% decline in affordable rental properties. We have been providing free and confidential crisis support services and information to the Casey South community for over forty years. Our range of services has been developed to respond to the needs of our community and we review them regularly to make sure we are able to respond to any changing support needs. We can assist people from our local community who are experiencing personal and financial difficulties by providing information referral and crisis support services including Emergency Relief counselling and financial counselling.
