International Reformed Evangelical Church (GRII-Melbourne) Inc.
The International Reformed Evangelical Church (GRII-Melbourne) Inc. is a nonprofit organization based in Melbourne, Australia, and is part of the broader Indonesian Reformed Evangelical Church (GRII) network. Founded in 1996, it represents one of the overseas extensions of the GRII, which was established in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1989 by Rev. Dr. Stephen Tong.
Theology and Polity
The church adheres to Calvinist theology and operates under a Presbyterian polity, emphasizing the importance of scriptural authority and the Westminster Confession of Faith. It seeks to provide a welcoming community based on Christian values, fostering interdependent relationships among its members.
History
The Melbourne branch began with a small congregational fellowship in 1996. The first official Sunday service was held in 1997. Over the years, the church has expanded its ministries to include language interpretation services, which began in 2007. The inauguration of its church building in South Melbourne took place in 2015, marking a significant milestone in the church's development. Recently, in 2020, the church initiated construction for building expansion and officially appointed Vic. Lim Yi Jin as assistant pastor.
Membership and Reach
As part of a global network, the church is connected to other GRII congregations in regions including Singapore, Malaysia, the United States, and Europe. The GRII as a whole has over 7,000 members across 47 congregations in Indonesia and additional ones internationally.
Affiliations
The International Reformed Evangelical Church (GRII) is a member of the World Reformed Fellowship, an international association of Reformed and Presbyterian churches.
Activities
The church hosts various services and activities, including Sunday services in Indonesian and English, Sunday School programs, and weekly prayer meetings. It aims to engage its community through these activities, promoting spiritual growth and fellowship among its members.
