The Nature Conservancy Australia is an environmental conservation charity. Our mission is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. The Nature Conservancy undertook conservation work across several key focuses in FY21, including 1) Oceans: restoring the most critically endangered marine ecosystem in Australia the lost shellfish reefs at 10+ locations around the country, including PeelHarvey Estuary, SwanCanning Estuary, Albany, Gulf St Vincent, Noosa River and Port Phillip Bay. This program also includes components of a shell recycling initiative. 2) Freshwater: TNC worked on improving the health of the Murray Darling Basin through a range of partnerships that support environmental watering in the wetlands. TNC has been instrumental in the management Gayini NimmieCaira property in NSW through working with First Nations people. This project ensures a balance between conservation and economic activity, we re conserving precious wildlife, developing sustainable agricultural practices and protecting significant cultural heritage over this vast 87,816 hectare property. 3) Climate: we have continued to work with a range of partners, including First Nations to support the development of Carbon Fire methodologies that are not only able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but are also a significant source of funding that can contribute to the sustainability of land management activities across northern Australia. 4) Northern Australia and the Aridlands: we have continued our work with Indigenous ranger programs, supporting healthy country workshops, getting people back on country and other initiatives to improve land management. 5) Outside of Australia: supported work across AsiaPacific with regards to fisheries & forestry management.
