Bayview College student Joshua is fast-tracking his future, undertaking a school-based apprenticeship in Carpentry with respected local business Alex Renton Building. The opportunity came about after a short work experience trial was organised via Bayview College. With ongoing support from his school and MEGT, Josh is currently balancing his Year 12 studies with days at TAFE and his employer. Having gained insight into the industry and invaluable hands-on experience, Josh is now even more determined to transition to a full time apprenticeship once he graduates. Josh’s employer Alex, whose motto is “Building into the Future,” believes that being part of Joshua’s journey is part of the bigger picture. “Training young apprentices like Josh is essential,” he said. “More skilled tradies will help ease the housing shortage and build a stronger future.” (fb)
