Home - The Scots College

One of Australia's oldest and most respected day and boarding schools for boys. An education that no other school can offer, this is The Scots Advantage. We are committed to developing a culture of high expectations that nourishes the development of creative, confident and accomplished young men. As one of the top private boys schools in Sydney, we acknowledge the importance of student engagement, of challenge and of active learning opportunities that are increasingly personalised and shaped to thoroughly equip boys for the future. The ultimate aim of our education is to help students acquire a knowledge of the truth of God, society and the world so that they are better prepared to serve in their families and the wider world, to the glory of God and for the welfare of others.

The Scots College Foundation

The Scots College Foundation is a nonprofit organization established to support The Scots College, one of Australia's oldest and most respected Presbyterian boys' schools located in Sydney. The Foundation's primary objective is to provide long-term financial security for the College by establishing and maintaining an independent capital base to fund its capital development and scholarship programs.

Purpose and Activities

The Foundation promotes education, training, research, and fundraising initiatives associated with The Scots College. It plays a crucial role in sustaining and advancing the College's facilities, academic programs, sporting and co-curricular activities, and scholarship opportunities. Its efforts ensure that the College can continue to offer an environment that prepares boys for future challenges, fostering leadership, service, and excellence.

Governance and Structure

The Scots College Foundation operates separately from the College itself and is governed by three Deeds of Trust covering building, scholarship, and education aspects. The Foundation's activities are overseen by a Board of Management composed of members drawn from the College community. This Board is responsible for decisions related to fundraising, investments, and the allocation of funds to the College. Members of the Board are elected from the Foundation membership.

As of recent records, Mr. James Dickson serves as the Chairman of the Board. Other board members include Justin Braitling, Hubert Delgorge, Jake Haines, David Horwitz, Dr. Ian Lambert, Lily Li, Alex Pikoulas, Robert Tuck, and Vicky Wang.

Philanthropy and Legacy

The Foundation administers an ongoing philanthropic program, benefiting significantly from the generosity of Old Boys (alumni), their families, and the wider Scots community. Donations support scholarships, building projects, and other initiatives that enhance the overall quality of education and student life at the College.

A notable legacy donor is Mr. Alan Elder, a Scots alumnus who graduated in 1944. Born in Scotland and having migrated to Australia at a young age, Elder maintained a lifelong connection with the College, particularly the Pipes and Drums. His significant bequest has contributed to the establishment of the Lang Walker Business Centre, perpetuating his memory within the Scots family.

Relationship with AUSUSA Foundation

The Scots College Foundation is an affiliate of the AUSUSA Foundation, which facilitates philanthropy particularly from alumni and supporters based in the United States. This partnership enables donors to make tax-deductible contributions, which can be designated specifically to support The Scots College's scholarship and building programs.

Impact

Through its financial and community support, the Foundation ensures that The Scots College continues to inspire boys to learn, lead, and serve with excellence. It supports the College’s innovative educational programs that focus on character, experiential education, creativity, wellbeing, entrepreneurship, and social leadership.

This nonprofit foundation plays a vital role in sustaining the heritage and future development of The Scots College, thereby enriching the educational experiences and opportunities for current and future generations of students.
