Welcome to our May newsletter. Six months out from the opening of the 2025 festival, there are just a handful of passes remaining for the Keynote Festival. More than a dozen passes are still available for the Festival Prelude, but please be quick to book at our website https://taschamberfestival.com.au or call 0417 440 840. Meet our Festival Artists Introducing Joshua Batty Joshua Batty is an internationally renowned flutist who joined the Sydney Symphony as solo flute in 2019 at the age of 27, after serving for two years in the same position with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra in Ireland. Over the past decade, Batty has performed as guest Principal Flute with more than thirty leading orchestras and top conductors across Europe, the USA, South America, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Having recently stepped away from his orchestral position to focus on his solo, chamber and teaching career, Joshua Batty will perform in various festivals and concert series across the UK, France, Luxembourg, New Zealand, and Australia in 2025. He will also give masterclasses in England, Scotland, Australia, and New Zealand. He is currently expanding the repertoire by commissioning new works from composers and id delighted to be performing the Tasmanian premiere of one of these, for flute and string trio by young Australian Harry Sdraulig. In addition, we will hear his arrangement for flute and string quartet of a Prokofiev sonata, performing with the Alma Moodie Quartet. Festival Director Stephen Block says: “We are very excited to have attracted an artist of Joshua’s international repute to perform here at the end of the year, and his performances in association with other festival ensembles will be one of the festival highlights to which we can look forward.” Regards Your festival team (fb)
Meet our Festival Artists Alma Moodie Quartet (AMQ) Founded in 2021, AMQ is a relatively new name on the string quartet scene. Named after the remarkable Australian violinist of the early 20th century, the Alma Moodie Quartet shares the dedication to the music their namesake championed, from Beethoven and Mozart to the neglected music of the early twentieth century. They made an outstanding debut at the festival in 2024, and such was the audience response that they have been invited back to play two concerts in the Festival Prelude. They will also collaborate with star flautist Joshua Batty and the outstanding clarinet-player Olivia Hans-Rosenbaum to present a wide range of repertoire, including Tchaikovsky’s rarely-heard third string quartet, and Brahms’ passionate clarinet quintet. As well as hearing the quartet perform in the beautiful acoustic of St Luke’s Church, Richmond you will also have the great pleasure of their company at the festival lunch at the Richmond Town Hall on Saturday 25 October, 2025. Please don’t miss this opportunity to hear an outstanding ensemble of the new generation at the beginning of their career! Tickets available via the website. https://taschamberfestival.com.au (fb)
