Matthew Flinders Anglican College
Matthew Flinders Anglican College (MFAC) is an independent Anglican co-educational primary and secondary day school located in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. Established in 1990 and named in honour of British navigator Matthew Flinders, the college has grown from an initial enrolment of 160 students to over 1,300 students as of 2019[2].
Academics and programs
The college is recognized for its academic excellence, with its primary school ranked among the top independent institutions nationally[1]. It offers extension programs such as Advanced Mathematics, Music EDGE, and the Flinders Elite Athlete Program, alongside international opportunities through its Round Square membership[1][4]. Round Square engagement emphasizes global citizenship, service, and leadership, aligning with the IDEALS framework (Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, and Service)[4].
Campus and facilities
The campus features modern learning spaces, including the Year 7 Precinct, Years 5–6 Flagship Centre, and the Primary Wonderarium resource centre. A state-of-the-art Infinity Centre for secondary students opened in 2024 as part of the Flinders Masterplan[5].
Leadership
Michelle Carroll became the college’s fifth principal in January 2024, having previously led St Catherine’s School in Melbourne. Her focus includes fostering student wellbeing and maintaining the institution’s core values of compassion, courage, integrity, and respect[1][5].
Community
The school promotes a culture of belonging and active participation, supported by over 300 staff members[2]. Its alumni network, known as Old Flinderians, maintains strong ties to the college community[5].

This year our Year 4s are discovering the joy of music with our new specialist Band & Vocal Program. 🎵 Each week, classes are broken into small groups of 4-5 students to receive focused group lessons with specialist tutors in Flute, Clarinet/Alto Trombone, Trumpet or Voice. The band students are mastering the fundamentals for their specific instruments using the Essential Elements tutor book, building skills in both group and ensemble settings. And as the year progresses class time will start to include time spent in a band. While our vocal students are refining their vocal techniques and exploring the magic of choral music. 🎶🎤 Plus, every fortnight, our Year 4s join Mrs Liz Young, Coordinator of Band, Brass & Woodwind Studies for engaging music class sessions that blend curriculum learning with practical skills. We’re thrilled to reveal our Prefects’ chosen charity for the year… Bloomhill Cancer Care 💙 This year, every dollar our Secondary students raise will go directly to supporting the incredible work they do. Special thanks to Primary parent Melanie Barone, who joined our Secondary Assembly earlier this term to share the impactful work of Bloomhill. 🙏 Our students are already off to a flying start with a BBQ in Term 1 and a Bake Sale in Term 2. But the big event is in Week 7 - Colours for a Cause! 🎉 Our student leaders are busy planning an unforgettable week of fundraising.
