Health Australia Tanzania Working in partnership Home Empowering rural communities in Tanzania to improve health outcomes since 2005 Only 57 of Tanzanian people have access to clean water This means many people mostly women and girls need to travel a significant distance to collect water for survival. Not only does this travel time affect childrens education and parents working hours but the water often carries diseases due to improper facilities. Only 30 of Tanzanian people have access to proper sanitation facilities Simple hygiene such as washing hands with soapy water can prevent diseases such as diarrhoea by 50. Proper access to sanitation facilities can also greatly reduce the cost of health care.
