Belongside Families Ltd
Belongside Families Ltd is an Australian nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families raising children with disability, developmental delay, and autism, primarily across New South Wales. Established as a community-driven, not-for-profit entity, Belongside Families aims to empower parents and caregivers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to help their families thrive.
History and Mission
Originally known as Kindred, Belongside Families was founded by families for families facing the challenges associated with childhood disability and developmental delays. The organization was created to provide an uplifting, supportive, and educational environment for parents and carers regardless of where they are in their journey. Its core belief is that no family should face the complexity of a disability diagnosis alone. Belongside Families envisions a future of respect, acceptance, and empowerment for all children and their families and actively works toward making this vision a reality through evidence-based support programs and peer community building[1][3].
Programs and Services
Belongside Families offers a variety of free, online programs designed to meet the diverse needs of families raising children with disabilities. These programs focus on education, peer support, and community connection, helping families navigate health, childcare, and educational systems, as well as access key supports like the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Additionally, the organization hosts inclusive family events, such as school holiday activities in Western Sydney and the Hills District, providing opportunities for families to connect and enjoy social engagement in a supportive environment[1].
The organization also facilitates a community Facebook group, offering a safe space for parents and carers to share experiences, seek advice, and celebrate achievements along their unique journeys[1][3].
Impact and Community Role
Belongside Families addresses a critical gap in early support for families following a disability diagnosis. Surveys indicate that many families wait years before gaining access to peer support networks. By providing timely connection and ongoing support, Belongside Families helps reduce isolation and emotional stress for caregivers, fostering resilience and confidence. Testimonials from families highlight the transformative impact of the organization’s peer support model, emphasizing a sense of belonging and empowerment during overwhelming times[4].
All programs and resources delivered by Belongside Families are online, ensuring accessibility to families regardless of their geographic location. The organization’s commitment to evidence-based practices and family-led support contributes to its strong reputation within the community and among allied health and social service partners[2][5].
Governance and Registration
Belongside Families Ltd is a registered charity in Australia, recognized for its contribution to education, information dissemination, and community connection for families of children with disabilities. It operates under the Australian Business Number (ABN) 89634519341RR0001, ensuring compliance with national standards for charitable organizations[2].
Summary
Belongside Families Ltd is a vital nonprofit organization supporting families raising children with disabilities in New South Wales through free online education, peer support, and community programs. By fostering knowledge, resilience, and connection among caregivers, it plays an essential role in improving the well-being and future prospects of children with developmental delays and disabilities and their families.

✨ Meet Bree: Program Manager at Belongside Families ✨ Bree began her career in medical practice management before moving to Karratha, WA to work in administration on a mining site. 💁️ Bree returned to NSW when her son Dax was born with Congenital Cytomegalovirus (CMV). This sparked a deep passion for disability inclusion and showing what’s possible for families like hers. Bree began sharing her family’s story through CMV Australia and Cerebral Palsy Alliance, helping to raise awareness and connect with other families on similar journeys. 👨👩👧👧 Now, as Program Manager at Belongside Families, Bree leads the design and facilitation of programs that support, empower and connect parents and carers of young people with disability. She works across workshops, peer groups and webinars – creating spaces where families feel informed, uplifted and, most importantly, not alone. 🐶 A fun fact about Bree is that she has a beautiful one-year-old German short-haired pointer called Dolly Dog, who keeps Bree accountable for exercise. ⛱ Outside of work, Bree loves going outdoors on the NSW South Coast where she now lives with her family. 🧡 What Bree loves most about her job is the feeling she gets after a session, knowing a parent or carer has walked away feeling heard, supported and more confident. . . . . . . . . . . . Everyone on our team is raising a child with disability, delay, or autism. That lived experience is at the heart of everything we do — and it’s what makes Belongside Families different. (fb)
