Today a landmark reform takes effect with the Registration standard: Endorsement for scheduled medicines – designated registered nurse prescriber now in place. Qualified RNs can now prescribe in partnership with authorised prescribers, expanding access to safe, timely and affordable medicines, the most significant change to nursing practice in more than two decades. ANMAC developed the Registered Nurse Prescribing Accreditation Standards, endorsed by Ahpra and the NMBA, and is accrediting programs to prepare graduates for this new role. To qualify, RNs will complete an NMBA-approved postgraduate qualification (or equivalent units), demonstrate at least three years’ clinical experience and undertake a six-month clinical mentorship. This achievement reflects years of collaboration with Ahpra, NMBA, CNMOs, education providers and professional bodies, and positions Australia alongside international best practice. ANMAC was pleased to be part of the 49th International Mental Health Nursing Conference hosted by the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses in Meeanjin/Brisbane. Bringing together more than 600 delegates from clinical practice, education, research and policy, this year’s theme Mental Health Nursing: Our Identity, Influence, and Impact sparked rich discussions about the profession’s evolving role in supporting mental health and wellbeing. Our Associate Director Dr Elijah Marangu attended the conference, engaging with thought leaders and gathering insights that will inform ANMAC’s accreditation and standards work. Highlights included: - A moving Welcome to Country by Yuggera man Aaron and opening remarks by ACMHN President Professor Rhonda Wilson and Adjunct Professor Shelly Nowlan, Chief Nurse, Queensland Health. - An inspiring keynote by Associate Professor Catherine Hungerford on the future of postgraduate mental health nursing education. - Masterclasses and presentations exploring cultural safety, toxic placement cultures, and emerging nurse practitioner education and practice. Thank you to ACMHN and all participants for the opportunity to learn and connect. The insights Elijah brought back will help ANMAC continue strengthening mental health nursing education and practice across Australia. #ACMHN2025 #MentalHealthNursing #NursingEducation #CulturalSafety #ANMAC (fb)
