Lovers and liars. Opera is always larger than life. For Opera Australia, 2022 was a year of renewal. Everyone across the company was excited about returning to live performances in January and audiences, while initially cautious, began to return in earnest. Opera Australia were able to present to full houses including sold out performances of The Phantom of the Opera in both Sydney and Melbourne. Opera Australia achieved a consolidated deficit for the year of $447,878. This was supported by donors, partners, supporters and the Opera Australia Capital Fund. We were also supported by the Federal, New South Wales and Victorian governments who provided additional COVID19 funding support. It was with this support that Opera Australia remained viable and allowed us to continue to deliver quality opera and musicals to our audience coming out of COVID19. Since being able to return to stage without significant COVID interruptions, the team at OA have worked tirelessly to present a demanding and spectacular program which includes fully staged operas, schools and national tours, special events, small scale recitals and grand productions.
