The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners sets the standards for general practice, educates the GPs of today and tomorrow, connects the general practice community, and advocates for better health and wellbeing for all Australians. The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) supports the Australian health system by setting standards for the education and practice of general practitioners (GPs), from medical students to experienced GPs, and advocating for better health and wellbeing for all Australians. The scope of support for GPs is wide, and includes aged care, mental health, preventive care and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. Setting and monitoring practitioners' and practices' activities against the RACGP standards promotes clinical excellence and patient outcomes by ensuring that patients receive high quality and appropriate health care that is both preventive of diseases and appropriately manages suffering associated with ongoing conditions. RACGP Training Services Ltd, previously called GP Synergy, is a wholly owned company of the RACGP. RACGP Training Services contributes to meeting the future workforce needs of NSW and ACT communities for provision of primary medical care services by providing training experience for GP registrars and support to GP supervisors. Providing training experience for GP registrars ensures that patients ultimately receive appropriate health care that both prevents the development of disease and that effectively manages ongoing diseases and conditions. Commencing from 1 February 2023, the RACGP has entered into a new funding agreement with the Department of Health to take primary responsibility for delivery of the Australian General Practice Training Program (AGPT program). The RACGP Training Services scope of delivery will change to employ staff nationally to deliver the AGPT program for the RACGP.
