Last week at C&K Amberley Community Childcare Centre, we were thrilled to welcome Shayne Neumann, MP Federal Member for Blair. Shayne very kindly presented us with a beautiful set of flags – the Australian, Aboriginal, and Torres Strait Islander flags – to proudly display at our centre just in time for NAIDOC Week 🏴🫶🏾 Shayne took the time to interact with the children, asking them about their favourite activities and sharing his own stories about living nearby. He even spoke warmly about his own family and grandchildren, making the visit feel personal and special for everyone 🥰 The children had lots of fun playing ball with Shayne, and he brought smiles all around when he jokingly offered to swap hats with some of the children! ⚽🧢 It was a wonderful morning filled with laughter, learning, and connection. Last week, the team at C&K Moorooka Community Kindergarten received a visit from Josh from Deadly Ed, who helped us start our Bush Tukka Garden 🧑‍🌾🪴 Josh set up our garden bed, and together we planted Lemon Myrtle, Native Raspberries, Native Violets, Old Man Saltbush, Native Thyme, and Midyim Berries. We learnt about each plant, and on the signs he provided there is a QR Code that gives us and our families access to more information 🌿🫐 Josh talked to us about the importance of discussing the native plants and the land our kindy is on with the children, before introducing them to Welcome to Country 🫶🏿 We can't wait to pick our raspberries, and use the Lemon Myrtle and Native Thyme to make tea with the children. We can use Old Man Saltbush to make chips – yum! 😋 This personal development was facilitated as part of the Kindy Uplift program.
