Pioneering GP Prof John Murtugh AO is being remembered as a sincere and humble man, widely recognised for his contributions to medicine and medical education. Tributes are flowing for the much-admired doctor, who has died peacefully in his sleep aged 89. The latest Aid to the Church in Need Religious Freedom in the World Report warns that rising authoritarianism is the single greatest threat to religious freedom, affecting more than 5 billion people. Authoritarian regimes are increasingly using digital surveillance, bureaucratic control and AI to repress religious life.
