Young Leaders of Tasmania Ltd. (YLOT) is a registered Australian charity focused on fostering leadership skills and personal development among young Tasmanians, including those living with disabilities. Registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), the organization employs innovative peer-mentoring programs designed to promote inclusivity and lifelong learning.
History and Mission
YLOT originated from observations of Isabella Franks, a young girl with a severe disability, whose interactions with peers demonstrated the potential for mutual growth through inclusive engagement. Inspired by her influence, YLOT developed the All Abilities Program, which utilizes a "reverse inclusion" model to encourage collaboration between young people with and without disabilities[1][2]. The organization's mission emphasizes fairness, diversity, and equitable access to personal development opportunities[1].
Programs and Activities
YLOT operates peer-mentoring initiatives and disability support services across Tasmania. Key programs include structured buddying systems and community-based projects aimed at enhancing leadership skills and social inclusion[3][4]. These initiatives focus on empowering participants to achieve their potential while fostering community connections.
Organizational Structure
As a public charitable company limited by guarantee, YLOT adheres to governance standards set by the ACNC. While specific leadership details remain undisclosed in public records, the organization emphasizes collaborative partnerships with educational institutions and community groups[2][3].
Impact and Recognition
YLOT’s programs address critical gaps in disability-inclusive leadership development. Though formal impact studies specific to YLOT are not publicly documented, its approach aligns with broader efforts in Tasmania to strengthen youth leadership and social cohesion[1][5].

Full-circle moment! 💚🙌🏼 We’re incredibly proud to share this photo from our Holiday Buddies program — featuring four of our amazing employees who were once Young Leaders at Bellerive Primary School during the very first years of our school program. Watching these young people grow through the program, volunteer as Buddies in their holidays, and now join our team of staff is what it's all about. 💫 This is workforce development in action — a pathway from primary school leadership to paid employment — and we couldn’t be prouder. Huge shoutout to both our young leader employees and our incredible support workers who’ve mentored them; and of course to the awesome participants who have inspired them along the way. Congrats to these four legends — and thank you to the whole team! 💚 (fb)

Programs EVENTS APPLY OUR STORY Young Leaders of Tasmania Ltd YLOT is a community notforprofit organisation whose vision is for every young Tasmanian including those living with disability to reach his or her full potential. Young Leaders of Tasmania grew from the experiences of a young girl living with severe disability Isabella Franks. Bella was found to significantly influence the personal growth and leadership qualities of fellow students and those around her. It was through this positive influence upon the lives of Bellas fellow students that we began to witness a natural growth and development of leadership skills.
