It is with a heavy heart that I write this message. Myself, my family and the Last Chance Corral family have suffered a monumental loss. My beloved sister Rebecca Chamberlain suddenly passed on July 12, 2025. This unexpected blow has shaken my world to its core. Rebecca was my best friend. She ran the Last Chance Corral office for over 12 years, maintaining every facet of its success, including our online presence, newsletter, fundraising, thank-you letters, and reviewing potential adopters. If you have worked with us, you have worked directly with Rebecca. If you appreciated and enjoyed the pictures and stories on our social media, you have Rebecca to thank. Of course, I did most of the writing … then she would “French it up,” as we like to say (clean it up!). She was also my buffer from those who need to express their never-ending dislike (I’m being kind here…) for the work we do at Last Chance Corral. Thank goodness for Rebecca, because that stuff tears me apart. My sister made the world a better place, and the impact of her loss will be felt at Last Chance Corral forever. For me, the days feel flat and gray with grief unabashedly sitting on my chest. I know time will heal this loss, it’s just very difficult to see that when you’re in the throes of grief’s vortex. How can she be replaced? With no one in line to fill her shoes, the future looks questionable – and different. Please be kind and bear with us as we adjust. We will continue to respond to you, our supporters, as we continue to provide love and care to our current residents at Last Chance Corral.
