Two-thirds of the BISC comms team is in St. Louis alongside many of our amazing partners at ProgressNow’s Commference! It’s great to be in Missouri - a state with a rich history of direct democracy, where voters have used the people’s tool to expand Medicaid, enact paid sick leave for workers, protect and expand reproductive freedom, and much more. But right now, #DirectDemocracy in Missouri is under attack. Just last night, the Missouri legislature forced a repeal of the paid sick days requirement in Proposition A, which Missouri voters passed in November. This is an outright attack on the #WillOfThePeople. The repeal of paid sick leave will take effect in late August - four months after the law has gone into effect and hundreds of thousands of Missouri workers have been earning #PaidSickLeave for the first time. BISC and our partners are not backing down. We will continue to fight for Missouri workers and ensure the will of the people prevails. Now is the time to join the movement to #DefendDirectDemocracy. Missouri is worth fighting for, and we are prepared to fight. (fb)
