The Auschwitz Institute for the Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities is honored to join the City of Oświęcim and the City of Sarajevo in dedicating a Bosnian pine to the Avenue of Memory Trees in Oświęcim. 🌳 The pine now grows in the proximity of the former German Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau alongside memory trees from Guernica, Dachau, Kyiv, and Hiroshima. Each of them carries the weight of tragedy — yet together, they form a landscape of resilience, a living testament that even out of darkness, humanity and hope can rise. 🔗 Learn more about the peace project Avenue of Memory Trees: https://oswiecim.pl/en/home/the-avenue-of-memory-trees/ (fb)
Each year on September 1, we honor the birthday of Holocaust survivor Naomi Kaplan Warren. This year holds special meaning: it marks the tenth anniversary of the Auschwitz Institute’s Educational Policies Program (EPP), the fifth year since it was renamed the Warren Educational Policies Program (WEPP) in Naomi’s honor, and what would have been her 105th birthday. Since its launch in 2016, WEPP has been at the forefront of shaping the Auschwitz Institute’s educational approach to atrocity prevention. Inspired by Naomi’s enduring legacy, the program has reached more than 12,500 teachers and an estimated 375,000 students across three continents—demonstrating how education can serve as a foundation for resilience, hope, and the prevention of future violence. We invite you to honor Naomi’s legacy by helping us reach more teachers and students around the world.
