The latest water clarity measurements from the lake science team, as of October 9, 2025. Lakes are cooling off but we still have a few more weeks of monitoring to go! East - 4.3 m (14.3 ft) North - 5.3 m (17.4 ft) McGrath - 3.7 m (12.2 ft) Salmon - 3.5 m (11.4 ft) Great - 6.2 m (20.2 ft) Upper Long - 5.5 m (18.0 ft) Lower Long - 6.0 m (19.6 ft) Messalonskee - 5.4 m (17.6 ft) We measure water clarity with a Secchi disk – a black-and-white disk that is lowered into the water until it is no longer visible from the surface. What do the numbers mean? Greater than 4 meters (13 feet) indicates good water clarity. Less than 2 meters (6 feet) indicates a severe algae bloom. Questions about the report?
