THIS WEEK! Maine Preservation’s OLD BUILDING FORUM & ANNUAL MEETING is just two days away, on Thursday, May 29, via Zoom. Free and open to all. DETAILS: www.mainepreservation.org/old-building-forum-program Learn about the latest preservation tools and technology, policy initiatives, funding resources, and more at our second Old Building Forum, a quarterly virtual convening featuring dynamic and informative conversations, plus a brief update on Maine Preservation initiatives. This month’s forum will kick off with our Annual Meeting, followed by a presentation by Maura Adams, Director of Community Investment at the Northern Forest Center, about the rehabilitation of the Gehring House in Bethel (“before” pictured; attend the virtual session to see the “after!”). Then, stay on for an at-home screening of multimedia artist Brian Dewan’s filmstrip on Maine's Civic Halls, a shared project of Greenhorns, Friends of Liberty Hall, and Maine Preservation. (fb)
What does it mean to have an easement with Maine Preservation? For one, it’s an annual visit from our expert team. We check in with owners 🐑 and document building and site conditions, like at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village (pictured). This informs regular ongoing maintenance and an actionable plan for a site’s preservation in perpetuity. What else is new at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village? 📰 The first of two annual volunteer days were featured by the Portland Press Herald, as the Shakers prepared to open for the season. Come fall, volunteers will again be welcomed to help put the Village to bed for winter. 🎙️ There’s also a new full-time resident at the Village in New Gloucester! Maine Calling recently hosted Brother Arnold, who shared that Sister April has arrived. Listen: www.mainepublic.org/show/maine-calling/2025-05-06/shakers-in-maine (fb)
