Join the New Mexico Land Conservancy on October 15th for Milu Velardi's presentation on New Mexico's bats! RSVP at nmlandconservancy.org! Did you know that New Mexico is home to one of the most diverse populations of bat species in North America? Local bat biologist Milu Velardi will talk about our resident bats and our lesser-known migratory species, as well as pollinator species found in the southern part of the state. She will also discuss how scientists go about studying them and the status of their populations as they face the ever-growing threat of White Nose Syndrome in our state. Milu Velardi is a certified wildlife biologist originally from Colorado. She currently works within LANL's biological resources team assisting in threatened and endangered species compliance and migratory bird work. When not at the lab, Milu enjoys caving with bats, trail running, movie watching, and general eating. Because she is always looking at the sky for birds or following mammal tracks in the mud, hiking can be slow going, but being outside amongst the wild things is one of the many highlights of working in New Mexico's open spaces.
