More than one-third of dementia caregivers are daughters. 💜 It is their love and strength that carries them through their caregiving experience. That same love and strength can also drive their determination in the fight to #ENDALZ, as it does for Lisa Kusmin. Lisa carries on her mother and father’s legacies of raising funds and awareness to honor their commitment to the cause and to say “thank you” to the Alzheimer’s Association for being a source of strength for her parents during her mother’s journey with the disease. Lisa’s story began when her grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. At that time, her parents became deeply involved with their local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, volunteering and fundraising to support others facing the same challenges. Years later, Lisa’s mother was diagnosed and eventually died with the disease. Then, in 2023, she lost her father — her mother’s devoted caregiver. Lisa and her family have remained devoted to the cause, sharing that “continuing the fight feels like the most meaningful way to honor them.” Their Walk to End Alzheimer’s team, The “A” Team, is named in honor of her mother Arlene and her grandfather Aaron. “Fundraising as The ‘A’ Team has become part of our family’s identity.” Over the years, they have raised nearly $200,000 to help fund Alzheimer’s care, support and research. In 2023, Lisa and her siblings were invited to cut the ribbon at the start of their local Walk. Lisa has always loved bald eagles, and just as they cut the ribbon two soared overhead. “I’m not usually one to look for ‘signs,’ but that moment felt like more than just coincidence.” Help us thank Lisa and all the daughters who show up with courage, compassion and commitment.
