Yesterday our Communication and Outreach Specialist Stacie Hazlett-Rothe was joined by City of Appleton Alderperson Vaya Jones and United Way Fox Cities Associate Director of Resource Development Alicia Frank to talk about the Brighter Female Futures (B.F.F.) group on WHBY Focus Fox Valley with Hayley Tenpas. The group discussed the importance and growth of the group which centers on creating the next generation of change makers for women and girls in the Fox Valley. Through volunteering with grant partners, social activities, and program participation, B.F.F. members deepen their understanding of the work of the Women’s Fund and continue to make real change now in our community. Jen Pawol is set to become 1st female MLB umpire. Pawol will ump three games during this weekend’s Marlins-Braves series in Atlanta, including both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader and the series finale on Sunday, when she will be behind home plate. The doubleheader necessitated adding a fifth umpire to the crew, since each home plate umpire skips the other game they’re not working. Pawol is now part of a slowly expanding group of female officials at the highest level of men’s sports. (fb)
