College Year in Athens is pleased to announce our first Virtual Lecture Series of 2025-2026! Join us on Wednesday, October 29 at 1 PM ET | 7 PM Greece for “Discovering the Lost Temple of Artemis” with Dr. Sylvian Fachard, Director of the Swiss School of Archaeology in Greece and Professor at the University of Lausanne. The location of the sanctuary of Artemis at Amarynthos had long remained one of archaeologists’ greatest unsolved mysteries. Until 2017, when a Swiss-Greek team formally identified this legendary site—marking one of the most significant archaeological breakthroughs in Greece in 30 years. Excavation co-director Dr. Fachard will share the thrilling first-hand account of this discovery, also featured in an award-winning ARTE documentary seen by more than a million people. This free virtual event is open to all. Register now to secure your spot—even if you can’t attend live, you’ll receive the recording after! Northern Greece revealed itself to Fall ‘25 students through the mountain villages of Metsovo, Ioannina, and Meteora—our second and final optional field study trip of the semester. Students explored how these smaller communities sustain themselves through tourism and tradition, tasted local specialties like galotyri cheese and kokoretsi, and stood atop towering rock formations where centuries-old monasteries seem to defy gravity. The slow and steady pace of village life was the perfect way to unwind before a busy week of midterms begins! 📸 | Photos by student contributors Ethan (Center for Global Education at St. Benedict/St. John's University) and Maddy (GW Office for Study Abroad and Student Exchange). #CYA #CYAthens #NorthernGreece #StudyAbroad #Fall2025 (fb)
