It means so much to us when our patients let us know they're appreciative of the care they receive. One patient recently donated to The Foundation of CVPH through its Honor a Caregiver program in honor of the care provided by our team on R7. In a brief message included with the gift, the donor called them, "My R7 angels." We are touched by this patient's generosity in support of the care we provide. Do you know what to do in case of an emergency? We're holding a "Staying Alive" health fair this Saturday, June 7 at the Champlain Centre from Noon to 4 pm. The event will feature displays, exhibits about assisting someone who is choking, in need of CPR or having a stroke; use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) and administering Narcan. Information about how to stop bleeding in a severely injured person, the focus of the nation-wide Stop the Bleed program, and caring for yourself in an emergency will also be available. Shana Riel, CVPH clinical education coordinator, explains that Staying Alive is aimed at those in the community without a medical background. “Emergencies can happen at anytime, anywhere to anyone. Having some basic knowledge can make a difference while you wait for medical help to arrive. Our goal is to provide practical, useful information,” she explains. Staying Alive is not a certification class. Information about certification will be available at the event. The program is underwritten by The Foundation of CVPH. We hope to see you there! (fb)
