Valmont Short Track Series is on! Everyone is invited! These are fun low-key grassroots races open to the public. The course changes every week, but is typically a 1-mile lap and most races are 4-5 laps, or about 25 minutes. The races are broken into several categories to choose from. On Friday, the driver who killed Magnus White was sentenced to just four years in prison. This sentence is profoundly inadequate. It does not reflect the gravity of the harm caused or the value of the life we lost. In our justice system, drivers who kill often face far lighter consequences than those who cause death by other means. That disparity is wrong. It sends a dangerous message—that the lives of cyclists and pedestrians are worth less. We must do better. We need stronger protections for vulnerable road users, more serious investigations, and real accountability when harm is done. The loss of Magnus left a hole in our lives, in BJC, and across the cycling world. But through this heartbreak, our community has come together—supporting one another, riding in his memory, and continuing the joy he shared so freely.
