In case you missed it, April is #NationalVolunteerMonth. ...But, at Scouting America, we KNOW that our volunteers deserve our respect, gratitude and recognition year-round. Today's #ScoutingAmerica shoutout? It goes to none other than Matt McCracken, or "Mr. Matt" as the #Scouts in Troop 101 and Venture Crew 101 of Warren, Ohio, call him. Mr. Matt is no stranger to #Scouting - in fact, he achieved #EagleScout, himself! Once an Eagle, always an Eagle - and, now, Mr. Matt also serves as coach, mentor and guide for Scouts in his community (Great Trail Council). Not only does Matt serve as an Advisor to the Quartermasters and Patrol Leader Council (PLC), he also acts as Troop 101 and Crew 101's IT and web developer. In this unwritten role, Matt ensures Troop 101 and Crew 101's websites prove up-to-date and function properly. Check out these websites for yourself - www.troop101.net and www.crew101.net are both impressive! Matt does more than this, alone, however. "Mr. Matt uses his extensive knowledge and experience to help the youth [Quartermasters] (QMs) navigate tough obstacles - no matter where they present - and always works to find a solution to empower the youth to make the right calls," says Harley H., Troop 101 Assistant Scoutmaster and Crew 101 Advisor. Dedicated to helping America's youth be Prepared. For Life., Matt has devoted countless hours to Scouting in Warren, Ohio. Those around him - including the youth, themselves - could not be more appreciative. Recently, Matt has stepped in as Committee Chair to help start Venturing Crew 101, navigating and managing all administrative tasks within the start of the unit. "Mr. Matt’s involvement goes beyond the typical duties of a titled volunteer," Harley explains. "He has always gone above and beyond for the troop, but especially in furthering the youth. In committee meetings or discussions with other adults, Mr. Matt is always advocating for what is best for the youth and their goals." Join us in thanking Matt - or "Mr. Matt," whatever you prefer - for all he has done and continues to do for Scouting. We cannot thank him enough for his commitment to helping Scouts in Warren, Ohio, learn so much, connect with one another, embrace the outdoors and become the best versions of themselves.
