Created through a partnership between the American Lighthouse Foundation, the US Coast Guard, and the Maine Office of Tourism , Maine Open Lighthouse Day spotlights the state’s rich maritime history and the need to preserve these structures for future generations. World Monuments Fund included Maine’s lighthouses on the 2025 #WorldMonumentsWatch to highlight the challenges facing coastal heritage and support the work of local expert organizations like Maine Preservation and the American Lighthouse Foundation in preserving these important pillars of coastal identity.
