On Friday, the Cambridge-Ellis children and staff experienced the most amazing surprise visitor. In light of our Artisan Program theme, Performance, we were honored to welcome cellist (and CES grandparent), Yo-Yo Ma, to our school! During his visit, he shared everyday stories with us accompanied by music that reminded him of his experiences. We learned music can tell a story and that one piece of music can be interpreted in different ways depending on who the audience is. One of the most precious moments of this very special visit was our children teaching Yo-Yo Ma a song we’ve been singing all year at the end of our weekly Assemblies called “Crowded Table.” Hearing the children sing while Katie and Yo-Yo played their instruments was unforgettable. Yo-Yo mentioned that this song reminds him of Cambridge-Ellis... how CES is a home for all of us, and how wonderful it is that we can all have this place where we can come together each day and share our experiences. One of the lines in the song says, “let us take on the world while we’re young and able,” and Yo-Yo acknowledged that each and every one of us is young and able to make a difference in this world.
