Join us on June 18th from 6-8pm for a community conversation about Juneteenth! On June 19th, 1865, Union Troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to enforce the emancipation proclamation and to inform the enslaved black people there that they were now free. This day came to represent the end of the American chattel slavery system, and came to be known as Juneteenth, or Freedom Day. Over time Juneteenth became one of the oldest holidays celebrated by Black Americans, and is still celebrated nationwide more than 150 years later. Now, during a time where many find their freedom at risk, join us for a community conversation where we’ll explore the history of Juneteenth, the ongoing struggle for freedom, and ask the question; who’s really free on Freedom Day?
