It’s officially Block Party Season in NYC! Our community schools program at P12X in the Bronx hosted its annual carnival for students and families, providing a day of fun, food, and facts about AHRC NYC programs. In the fall of 2014, 45 schools became NYC Community Schools as part of an attendance improvement and drop-out-prevention grant in partnership with United Way NYC. Community Schools support the whole child, the child’s family, and learning both inside and outside of the classroom. Each school has a lead Community-Based Organization (CBO) partner, such as AHRC NYC, that coordinates and delivers services. Every school also has a Community School Director, who is a CBO employee, that coordinates the partnership between the school and the organization. We are proud to have continued this initiative for more than three school years and look forward to serving more students and families in the years to come. #Schools #community #education (fb)

We were among hundreds of other advocates at this week’s Disability Policy Seminar, learning more about the threats to critical programs such as Medicaid and Social Security, the effects of recent events including the dismantling the Department of Education, and speaking directly with legislators and their staffs about how they can support the disability community.
