Seventeen calls this past week for CVAC’s all-volunteer crews. Our calls included the following: • Patient who had difficulty breathing • Patient who was reported to be having a stroke • Patient with arm paralysis • Two patients who were intoxicated With the calendar turning to April, we want to report on our March and Q1 results. We had a total of 57 911 calls in March, just two short of the number we had last year. CVAC’s volunteers logged 1645 hours on duty in March with forty members going on at least one call. Six people went on five or more calls. For Q1 2025, we have had 187 calls. CVAC is actively looking for additional members to supplement our ranks. Seventeen calls for CVAC’s volunteers this past week including for the following: • Patient who suffered injuries in a domestic violence dispute • Patient having seizures • Several patients who suffered injuries in different motor vehicle crashes • Several patients who were weak and unable to ambulate When someone calls 911 for a medical emergency, the call is answered by dispatchers at a centralized location called “60 Control” which then sends out a page to CVAC to respond. For many of us, that message is received by a physical pager that we carry with us. As with any electronic equipment, pagers have a shelf life and it was time to replace and upgrade many of CVAC’s pagers. They are expensive. Fortunately for CVAC, we were awarded a grant from Stayin' Alive Charity to help us offset the cost of purchasing fifteen pagers. Stayin’ Alive is a local charity whose mission is to support first responders of Northern Westchester. Stayin’ Alive has been quite generous to CVAC over the years by helping us to purchase vital signs monitors, LUCAS devices to assist with CPR and other life-saving equipment.
