Calvary welcomed colleagues from Maison Médicale Jeanne Garnier of Paris this week for a two-day summit, Advancing Excellence in Palliative Practice and End-of-Life Care. The gathering at Calvary Hospital marked not only a celebration of our shared mission and heritage but also a renewed commitment to advancing palliative and end-of-life care, research, advocacy, and education. Maison Médicale Jeanne Garnier and Calvary are bound by a remarkable legacy that began in 1842, when Jeanne Garnier founded the Dames du Calvaire to care for those facing the end of life with dignity and compassion. Inspired by her vision, Annie Blount Storrs and a community of women in New York established The American House of Calvary in 1899. The Paris hospital was founded in 1874. Across continents and generations, we have both remained steadfast in our shared mission: to provide comfort, hope, and expert care to those most in need.
