Happy Father’s Day to all of our Y Dads out there!! The Beginning: Sonora Smart Dodd, inspired by the idea of Mother's Day, wanted a day to honor fathers. She proposed the idea to her local Spokane YMCA, which then helped organize the first Father's Day celebration. Early Celebrations: The first Father's Day, held on June 19, 1910, included sermons, social gatherings, and public recognition of fathers. Ongoing YMCA Involvement: The YMCA's role in establishing Father's Day highlights its commitment to supporting families and recognizing the important role fathers play. (fb)
