New moms at select Mercy locations now have the option to provide life-changing care, after providing new life to their babies. Through the Beginnings and Blessings program, Mercy moms can opt to donate their placenta for research and to help others — at no extra cost to them. The placenta is normally discarded as medical waste, but research has shown that this birth tissue can be helpful in the treatment of wounds, burns and other conditions. (fb)
