In Mangod village of Madhya Pradesh, Ravina Pardeep, a new mother, faced dire challenges. Her husband, a daily wage laborer, struggled to support their family financially. When Ravina became pregnant, her local Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) registered her for the Kilkari programme. Using her husband’s mobile number, Ravina began receiving weekly voice calls with crucial information on pregnancy and childcare. These calls quickly became her lifeline. She learned about the importance of nutrition, vaccinations, regular antenatal check-ups, and when to seek medical help. In her ninth month, her family had no money for transport to the hospital. But Ravina remembered a Kilkari call about the free government ambulance service and her husband quickly arranged one. Ravina reached the District Hospital safely and delivered a healthy baby.
