October 15 – International Day of Rural Women Today, we honour the rural women who serve with courage, resilience, and love in the remote communities across Africa. At Hands at Work, we see these women every day: 🧡 Care workers who walk long distances to visit orphaned children 🧡 Grandmothers raising the next generation with faith and fierce love 🧡 Women leaders in the local Church, modelling servanthood and compassion 🧡 Mothers, sisters, and neighbours who share what little they have to care for one another Though often overlooked by the world, rural women are central to sustaining their communities — spiritually, emotionally, and physically. They are teachers, farmers, caregivers, prayer warriors, and leaders. Their strength is not in titles or resources, but in their faith, endurance, and sacrificial love. We celebrate them. Meet Matthew, one of our incredible Field Coordinators from Lago's Nigeria, who has been faithfully serving with Hands at Work for the past 9 years! He’s the second born in a family of four siblings and brings not just experience, but deep joy and compassion to his work. “Spending time with the children brings life to me,” he shared. Their laughter lifts his worries, and watching them grow into youth who serve God fills him with encouragement. Connecting with care workers who have become like family, and meeting people from all over the world, have made this journey even more meaningful. A scripture close to his heart right now is: John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give it to you as the world gives.
