🧠 World Stroke Day – Know a hidden risk! Did you know that lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a) could raise your stroke risk. One recent big review found around a 1.7-times higher chance of stroke recurrence and about twice the odds of poorer functional recovery. What’s important for you to know: ℹ️ Lp(a) is mostly determined by your genes, so diet and exercise alone don’t always lower it. ℹ️Even if many clinical guidelines now recommend that every adult has at least one Lp(a) test in their lifetime, it’s still not always checked during standard cholesterol tests. ℹ️By asking your doctor to test your Lp(a), you can find out if you have this extra risk. Then you and your doctor can take stronger steps to protect you. Effective prevention isn’t just about individuals, it’s about systems. The Brussels International Declaration calls for: ✅ Making Lp(a) testing routine and universally accessible, not optional. ✅ Integrating Lp(a) into national and global cardiovascular and stroke-prevention plans. ✅ Recognising that everyone should have at least one lifetime Lp(a) screening so we catch hidden risks early.
