Dear Davis Ducks, It is with mixed emotions that after ten years, I end my chapter as the Davis Magnet School Principal & begin a new one serving as the NMUSD Director of Engagement, Partnership, & Expanded Learning. It has been a tremendous privilege to serve as the Davis Principal. 🧡 Davis Magnet School has been recognized as one of the BEST schools in the United States, earning 11 different awards, since 2016 at the national &/or the state level for academic achievement, behavioral support, & community engagement. The labor of love, collaboration, & creativity demonstrated to achieve, and sustain, success would not be possible without the quality instruction within our classrooms. It has been an honor working with such a dedicated, compassionate, & collaborative team of teachers & support staff. 🧡 Within that same time, I am grateful for the continued trust & support of our parent community. Parents, thank you for trusting me with your children’s safety, well-being & education. Whether it has been for one year or for 7+, I am grateful for your partnership. 🧡 Thrivers author, Dr. Michelle Borba writes that to thrive, children need (1) At least one caring adult champion & (2) To develop 7 character traits. The final trait she writes about is optimism. Two components of optimism are positive thinking & hope. Helen Keller said, “Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope or confidence.” The Davis students, past & present fill me with hope, optimism, & confidence. I am proud of our students’ achievements & their contributions to the community. 🧡 The principal keys have been passed to Ms. Stacy DeBoom-Howard, who is thrilled to join the community. She is an experienced administrator, who has served the district not only as a site principal but also at the district level. Ms. DeBoom-Howard is a kind & dedicated educational leader with strong instructional knowledge & collaborative practices who will continue to support student growth in collaboration with the staff & parent community. 🧡 Thank you for your trust & your teamwork.
