BREAKING NEWS This weekend, tragedy struck at Growler Pines Tiger Preserve in Hugo, Oklahoma, when tiger handler Ryan Easley was fatally mauled by a tiger in his care on Saturday, September 20. Easley had a long history of exploiting big cats. He acquired tigers from Tiger King figures Joe Exotic and Doc Antle and hauled them around the country for years with his business, ShowMe Tigers—forcing them to perform in circuses such as Shrine and Carden. In 2017, Easley was caught violently whipping tigers during training, striking one tiger 31 times. When the animals weren’t performing, they were confined to cramped cages for hours. Lions Tigers & Bears Founder & Director Bobbi Brink shared this statement: “This tragic incident is yet another reminder that wild animals should never be handled, exploited, or used for entertainment. Tigers are apex predators, not props. No matter how ‘tame’ they may seem, the risk is always there, for both the animal and the human.
