As summer winds down, we asked one of our Project 1.27 foster families for ideas on how to make the most of the next few weeks! The foster family of 7, whose children are 1 to 7 years old, shared how they structure their summer days with consistency, joy, connection, and affordability. Morning starts with breakfast, followed by a simple chore. Then Independent playtime, 1.5 to 2 hours while the parents rotate through for some quality time. Outdoor time with about an hour of play before the heat kicks in. Then it’s lunch, naps, and afternoon outings! Having fun doesn’t have to be expensive. Here are some favorite summer activities: 💙Vacation Bible Schools or Kids’ Night Out 💙Zoo trips at half-price admission. 💙Lakeside fun- where rides are just .50 cents. 💙The YMCA - discounted memberships for foster families and 2 hours of childcare per day. They round out the evenings with low-key activities like Mario Kart or a movie, and “quiet candle time,” where the family reads together with a lit candle. “It’s predictable, and the kids really thrive on knowing what’s coming next”.
