Working Learnshop: Ecological Restoration Stewardship Volunteers & Learners Welcome! Join us (and bring along any budding naturalists age 10+) for a hands-on series of Working Learnshops focused on restoring a riparian floodplain along beautiful Tinicum Creek. Come for one session or all four! WHEN: • Saturday, September 6 • 9:30 AM–12 PM • Tuesday, September 9 • 9:30 AM–12 PM • Thursday, September 11 • 9:30 AM–12 PM • Saturday, September 13 • 9:30 AM–12 PM WHAT WE’LL DO These sessions combine learning, doing, and connecting. Together we’ll tackle invasive plants while exploring the skills needed to bring a degraded ecosystem back to life. You’ll gain knowledge you can even put to use in your own backyard! We’ll begin in a demonstration-restoration zone at Camp Galil (a permanently protected 60-acre property along Tinicum Creek), targeting one of the area’s most aggressive invaders: Japanese stiltgrass. Luckily, stiltgrass is easy—and oddly satisfying—to pull, making it a great activity for all ages. Removing it now, just before it seeds, sets the stage for future Learning Workshops later this Fall and next Spring, where we’ll be planting native species. These efforts are part of a larger, multi-year initiative to restore healthy, resilient native ecology along the creek. STAY FOR LUNCH! After the work is done, bring a packed lunch and relax with us. Picnic tables and indoor restrooms are available at Camp Galil. Sweet tooth? There may even be baked goods—feel free to bring something to share. Hopefully, Mother Nature will continue bringing us this beautiful pre-autumn weather!
