Laurel Area Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers, inc.
Since 2002, Laurel Faith in Action has been addressing the issues of isolation, loneliness and meeting basic needs of our recipients, enabling many to remain in their home. MISSION STATEMENT: The mission is "to enhance the quality of life for persons 60 years and older who reside the Greater Latrobe, Derry, and Ligonier areas by providing companionship and assistance." The program works to address issues of isolation and unmet need to help aging residents remain living in their homes with an overall sense of security. It is an everyday struggle for elderly people to remain in their homes. It is not only an effort but, in many cases, a physical impossibility to maintain a house, purchase groceries and clothing, and get to essential doctor's appointments. Many elderly people do not have a family member, neighbor, or friend who can help them with these common, everyday tasks. For many of these people it is not just a matter of quality of life issues involving isolation and loneliness, but also meeting basic survival needs. Laurel Area Faith in Action works with 43 Community Partners - organizations, agencies, and churches to address unmet need of the aging population. Since 2002, over 6,500 individuals have supported the program with time, talent, trust, and generous donations. The program staff and Board have worked hard to build a viable, stable outreach organization that continues to address unmet need. Partners include Adelphoi group homes, Westmoreland County Area Agency on Aging, Excela Health, Saint Vincent College, United Way of Westmoreland County, Laurel Area Partnership on Aging, Unity and Derry Township Supervisors, 22 area churches, and many more.
